day of the dead invitation packet

Undergrad Project

Role: Designer, Illustrator

Honorable Mention at the Juried Student Art Exhibition

This project was an assignment, where we were instructed to create an invitation packet of an event of our choice in Chicago. The invitation packet needed to contain: a save the date, invitation, RSVP, and a ticket. They all had to work cohesively and successfully communicate the message to our audience. As part of my heritage, I decided to base my project on the Day of the Dead, Rito y Recuerdo exhibit at the National Museum of Mexican Art. The main challenge of this project, as it can be deduced by the title, is that the event reached to two different communities, a Spanish and English speaking audience. Therefore the invitation had to be flexible enough to equally communicate to both groups. As seen in the photos, most of the components of the projects are double sided in order to contain the same information in both languages without increasing the size of the pieces.

I also wanted to demonstrate the ideas, environment, and meaning of the exhibit through the invitation, without giving it away to intrigue the audience to attend the event. This was done through the use of colors and illustrations, as well as, the 3D aspect which allows the audience to interact with the pieces.
